No matter how hard we try, some spaces are just bound to be magnets for clutter. Instead of returning things to where they are properly kept, all too often, high traffic areas transform into drop zones for receipts, snail mail, and other miscellaneous items. While keeping the home completely spotless all the time is pretty much impossible, these spaces can actually be kept relatively clutter-free through routine organizing of at least once a week. Here are five spaces that must be decluttered on a weekly basis:
1. The Bathroom
When it comes to being clutter-free, the most important part in the bathroom is having enough storage. However, the cabinets and countertops are popular places where minor clutter tend to begin and build up. Because the ideal goal when it comes to bathroom countertops is to make sure the surfaces are clear, having designated bins for your regular used items will help keep the surfaces clean. For example, a bin for your makeup, a bin for your hair products and/or your face products, makes it easier to put things back, especially when you are in a rush.
2. The Bedroom
A common culprit of bedroom clutter is typically drinking glasses, worn clothes and shoes. To avoid clutter in this area make sure at the end of the day you put these items in their designated place. If you are someone who does not have the time to put these items away at the end of the day, at least dedicate time at the end of the week. You can take it a step further and add a phone reminder to prevent you from forgetting to declutter.
3. The Closet
To avoid a full declutter in your closet, when you remove your clothes, place them in their designated places. For example, designated places include the hamper, the closet rod or folded in a drawer. As long as they are put away the clutter will be minimized.
4. The Coffee Table
This is easily one of the most common clutter magnets in any house. It usually starts with mail that’s casually tossed with the intention of getting back to it later, except a day passes, then another. Other items that wind up like this involve face masks, books, clothing accesories, and sometimes, even keys. All of those items have their own proper place, so put them in it.
5. The Makeup Bag and Dresser
Within a week, unused eye products or extra lipsticks can find their way into the bottom of your makeup bag. They can also be left scattered on a vanity dresser. Neither of these things is ideal, so it’s always a good idea to make sure that you only carry what you need. In the same vein, make sure that whatever is on your vanity is stored properly. There are many sturdy makeup organizers in the market and to pick the correct one, a good rule of thumb is to make sure you measure the space it would go in properly.
Everything in its place is definitely easier said than done, especially with everyone so busy. However, the littlest things can make the biggest difference, and having a clutter-free home will definitely be a great mood booster. Every small step counts towards having an organized and neat living environment so its up to you to create it.
