The Best Spaces to begin your Organizing Journey

Home organization projects can be truly exciting. Even though, when you’re living with a lot of clutter, the idea of putting away extra items and clearing your space can be daunting, once your space is organized you’ll no longer have to work on crowded countertops or even step on your kids’ toys. Even better, you won’t have to spend hours searching for your keys in piles of items!

You may be at a loss on where or how to start, especially when you start to face the mess in your house. If you’re facing the same dilemma below, you’ll find the best spaces to get started when organizing your home:

1. STORAGE SPACES

Here’s one trick worth remembering: don’t start with the spaces you commonly use. The tendency is that you’ll just find more things you’ll need to put away when there’s no proper space for them yet.

The best way to kickstart your home organization project is to work on your storage spaces first. Identify areas in your home you can use to put away objects and organize them. For example, good storage spaces are the garage, the attic, walls, an empty room, and/or a space that you hardly use. It’s a lot like clearing space in your fridge before you unload groceries.

Organizing your storage spaces first will make it easier for you to declutter other areas in your house.

2. COMMON SPACES

The next places you’ll want to look at are your kitchen, living room, and bathrooms. Because these are spaces you share with your family, it is best to bring them on board.

Another reason to start with these common spaces is that everyone in the household will start to see the home become more organized. This may encourage them to be tidier with their personal spaces as well, which brings me to the third point…

3. PRIVATE SPACES

Organizing these personal spaces requires the help of the person using them. On top of that, this also takes time and uses up a lot of energy. Just imagine: you’ll have to make a decision for each shirt or pair of shoes in your closet, and you’ll have to go through each paper in your home office.

An effective strategy when it comes to organizing private spaces is to do them on a weekend, where you have plenty of time. If you’re working on bedrooms, always go for the bedroom closet first. Sorting through closets often requires a wide space—they may even take up a whole room! Once you finish organizing your closet, then you can move to the bedroom

As mentioned earlier, make sure to involve everyone in the family, especially when it comes to their personal space. This helps ensure that their items are stored in the right places according to their preferences.

Organizing your home is a worthwhile activity, but it’s no easy task. Without the right strategy, you can end up feeling so overwhelmed with the mess to the point of giving up. Starting with the spaces mentioned above will help you get the ball rolling easily and actually clear up some space. As long as you keep up consistent work, you’ll be able to see a clutter-free and lovely home in no time!
